Approaching AI as a content creator.

My opinion on the rise of AI in 2023 and it's impact on content creators

Will AI help or hinder the Creator Economy?

Every few years, a buzzy new technology comes along to stir the pot and dominate the narrative. But unlike 3D printing, crypto, or the metaverse, AI isn’t just niche or overhyped or theoretical – it’s very much here, and it’s very, very real.

It’s understandable why everyone’s scrambling to figure out if they should fight it or embrace it: even investment bank Goldman Sachs is predicting that 300 million jobs could disappear thanks to the technology.

Curious what this means to you as a Youtuber? Let’s take a look at both sides of the debate from a creator POV, specifically when it comes to scripts.

A Negative Outlook on AI:

AI will not take over the creative process just yet. Why am I so confident on this? Well, Casey Neistat put a bunch of AI tools to the test (ChatGPT & MidJourney) and allowed AI to control the creation process of his most recent upload. Take a look for yourself.

In saying that, the progress of AI in the past 4 months has been nothing but exponential and it's a cause for concern for some creators with terms being coined such as “AI Anxiety”.

Casey’s video may have eased a lot of creators AI anxiety but there is certainly room for it on Youtube.

A Positive Outlook on AI:

YouTuber Ali Abdaal used AI as a productivity tool to write his book club videos. Unlike Neistat, this approach to AI actually worked out!

Prompt writing takes some skill, so perhaps Ali Abdaal has a knack for it. In his case, AI actually empowered his content creation.
